Masterful Austin Butler in Baz Luhrmann's movie : Elvis

The phenomenal film Elvis by Baz Luhrmann has been in theaters for many weeks and viewers in France and Brittany love this story about the life of the "King of rock and roll".

Austin Butler

We had already been able to admire the new and original style of this director, Baz Luhrmann, in his previous films.

The editing of the film is electric, there are visual experiments and even animated sequences.

These novelties are mixed with archival footage, which gives the film an astonishing creative effect.

The story turn around Elvis' relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The Colonel character is played by Tom Hanks.

This brilliant but diabolical promoter was the explorer of many "country" artists before Elvis. His intuition and his sense of observation told him that Elvis would be an artist with whom he could create "the greatest show on earth ». And it is thanks to Elvis that Tom Parker will earn the most money, of course !

The colonel "created" Elvis. He showed his talent to the whole world, but probably caused his death since he demanded superhuman efforts from his star and accustomed him to drugs. The colonel's pledge was 50% of the artist's income, a scam. His name was also a scam. In reality Elvis was a Dutch emigrant without an American passport.

To embody The King, the legend, the director looked for an actor who will be able to sing and overcome this responsibility. Many candidates have applied for this role. The director received a recommendation from Denzel Washington for this role : A young actor with whom Denzel worked in the theater.

After 5 months of testing, the evidence was there, the new King would be character is played by Austin Butler.

This successful actor has been working since he was 13 years old. He is well known for his series "The Carrie Diaries" and "The Shannara Chronicles". He also appeared in Tarantino film "Once upon a time... in Hollywood" and in Jim Jarmusch's "The Dead don't die". His dream of having a leading role could finally be realized.

Austin blends into the skin of Elvis. It's the best acting performances of the year. The realism is disturbing, very touching. For two years he put aside his private life to study the life of his character. His performances are magnetic, unforgettable, we want to watch him again and again... In the first part of the film, the actor really sings a young Elvis repertoire. The effect is amazing. Each gesture, mimicry, his way of speaking and his famous frenzied sway presented by Austin Butler becomes “art within art”. The actor felt a spiritual connection to Elvis, as both lost their mothers at the age of 23.

The greatest Austin Butler performance is to show the humanism of the rock and roll legend. Austin has transcribed an incredible portrait of Elvis, among the racial segregation that ravaged America in the 50s. et 60s.

The artist was very worried about the look of the Presley family on his interpretation, but they loved the movie. Elvis' daughter says Austin deserves an Oscar for this role.

The press also suggests that Austin is one of the favorites for the Oscar 2023.

The film received a 12-minute ovation at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival this year.
