In a further indictment of the dark underbelly of Ireland\'s economic success the Conference of religious of Ireland has said that \" almost three quarters of a million people still live in households with incomes below the poverty line\".

In its 233 page review, entitled ;Planning for Progress and Fairness\', CORI Justice also shows that thirty per cent of all households at risk of poverty are headed by a person with a job - these are the \'working poor\'.

CORI are the latest of a number of social agencies to highlight this hidden facet of the \'Celtic Tiger\'.

In January the Combat Poverty Agency accused the Irish Government of making little progress on tax and welfare commitments set out in the Programme for Government. The CPA said although the 2008 Budget would help reduce poverty in certain circumstances it will have little or no impact on child poverty.
