With this year being the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising in Dublin a variety of items have been taking place. The Celtic League held its AGM in Dublin again this year at Easter and events organised by the branch have taken place in Ireland and Wales. This evening Welsh language channel S4C will film a programme which fouses on the events in Dublin and later when prisoners of war were held at Frongoch in CymruRebels Iwerddon 1916 : Lyn a Dylan Ebenezer is made by Rondo productions. Here is their background on the item:?2016 marks the centenary of the Easter Rising in Ireland, a bloody battle which sparked the long journey towards Irish independence. Broadcasters Lyn Ebenezer and his son Dylan embark on a special journey to trace the history, where they meet some of the icons of the campaign for independence, including Gerry Adams. Lyn first visited Dublin in 1966, for the 50th anniversary celebrations, where he marched through the streets alongside the IRA and the Free Wales Army. This was the beginning of his obsession with the Emerald Isle and its dramatic history. If the events of Dublin 1916 were the spark, the flame was truly ignited at the Frongoch Camp near Bala, North Wales. Around 2,000 rebels were imprisoned at Frongoch, including Michael Collins. These were the men who would return to Ireland to continue the fight which would ultimately secure Irish independence. Lyn has since become one of the world?s foremost experts on the history of Frongoch.?It will be broadcast this evening Sunday, October 02 20.00, S4C and for those none Welsh speakers there is a subtitle option. It can be received in ALL the Celtic countries via the UK Freesat service (including Ireland and Brittany ?
