NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE We reported some days ago on the chaos that has ensued following changes to the electoral register in Mann with local councillors finding that as they have been removed from the electoral register they are now disqualified from office. See link: (voir le site) At the time of our report the number affected was three. However it is now four and set to climb into double figures. Manx newspapers and radio are speculating between 13 and 17 will be required to step down. See links: (voir le site) (voir le site) As indicated in the Radio report the government is now moving on the issue but it is something of a ?stable door? exercise. Astonishingly it is reported over 12,000 names were removed from the register which on an Island with a total population of 84,000 does call into question if the electoral system is fit for purpose. Interestingly both MHKs and MLCs who sit in the Islands Tynwald are unaffected by the current problem and indeed ?missing? voters may assist the re-election prospects of what is an increasingly unpopular legislature unless that is electoral lists are upgraded and audited.
