The Dungavel immigration removal centre (IRC) in Lanarkshire is the subject of a recent inspection by HM Chief Inspector Prisons. The HMI make a number of recommendations for improvements to the way the centre is currently operated. Dungavel was the focus of concern some years ago because of the detention of young children there a practice the UK border agency say has now ended. However the report points to difficulties over determining the age of some detained and recommends improvements. It also focuses on areas where Health care can be improved. Dungavel and its operation has been criticised by a wide range of Scottish community groups over the years including political figures, trade unionists and faith groups. The Celtic League has raised a number of concerns about the IRC in recent years, not least the failure to comply with UN standards for the training of health care standards (see links): (voir le site) (voir le site) (voir le site) (voir le site) A link to the new HMI report (which was compiled following an unannounced visit) can be found here. The summary of recommendations is in section five of the report: (voir le site) J B Moffatt (Mr) Director of Information Celtic League 08/07/15 THE CELTIC LEAGUE INFORMATION SERVICE.
