NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE ?Making sure that everyone can do better in life will help make Scotland a fairer place to live and work, but it will also make it a more prosperous place too.? That was the positive message from Scotland?s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, in a letter responding to congratulations sent to her following her election from the Mannin Branch of the Celtic League. The First Minister also highlighted a determination to ?open up greater opportunities for women? pledging to ?lead by example?. The full text of the letter from the First Minister is set out below and a link to the letter of congratulations sent by Branch Secretary, Roy Kennaugh, following the November meeting of the Mannin Branch can be found at the link below. ?Dear Roy, Many thanks for your kind wishes on my election as First Minister of Scotland. It is a great privilege to serve as First Minister and I am delighted to have taken on this responsibility at such an exciting time for our country. Scotland has changed forever and for good as a result of the referendum. People have been engaged, inspired and empowered by politics like never before and we must harness that energy and enthusiasm to build a more prosperous and fairer society. I am committed to leading a government focused on prosperity, participation and fairness that puts people at the heart of its plans. I want to build a Scotland that is confident, where people are helped out of poverty, businesses thrive and inequalities are tackled - a country where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential and where good government and civic empowerment prevail. As Scotland?s first female First Minister, I am also determined to open up greater opportunities for all women and I will lead by example, encouraging others to follow, on equal representation, low pay and improving childcare. Making sure that everyone can do better in life will help make Scotland a fairer place to live and work, but it will also make it a more prosperous place too. I take great encouragement from the messages of support I have received and thank you again for taking the time to write to me. NICOLA STURGEON?
