It was announced last week (30th October 2008) that the youth of nationalist political party, Parti Breton, will produce its first magazine, dedicated to furthering the debate on political issues that the young people of the Party consider important. It is also expected that a Welsh language magazine, 'Ein Gwlad' (One Nation), will be resurrected and officially launched before Christmas this year.

Ar Vretoned Yaouank/The Breton Youth of Parti Breton, launched 'YAOUANKiz' (Youth), with the aim of furthering debate on political issues that the youth group are concerned with such as democracy, Brittany, the environment and Europe. 'YAOUANKiz' will be written in the French language, but is expected to also contain some articles in the Breton language too. The first edition (No.0) is out now and can be found by clicking on the link below.

The second magazine, 'Ein Gwlad' (One Nation), will be in the Welsh and English languages and will be produced in partnership with the original publishers. Ein Gwlad will be non party political and like the original, the content is expected to be surprising, challenging and politically radical. Promoters of the publication have billed it to be "the most radical magazine in Wales."

While the first edition of 'YAOUANKiz' is currently free, 'Ein Gwlad' can be subscribed to for a nominal fee each month. Neither magazine will receive public money of any kind and will rely totally on subscribers and supporters.

Outside of the fact that both magazines are to be welcomed in adding to the nationalist political debate within these two Celtic countries, it is worthwhile noting that both magazines will only be available online, although limited printed versions will also be made available as and when needed.

The online publication of newspapers and magazines represent, perhaps, the way that small groups can still produced news today, for a relatively small readership. With rising costs for printed publications and with an increasing number of people choosing to read news online, the Celtic League itself has given serious consideration, over the past few years, to moving its production of 'Carn' over to online format only. For the time being however, the Celtic League will continue to produce Carn three times a year, as agreed at its AGM in August 2008, at least until 2011 (the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Celtic League).
