The Celtic League General Secretary, Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, is keeping up the pressure on the SRU to get them to adopt an 'ALBA' strip on the National team shirt.

An on line petition has been started and a Facebook group site has been launched. The SRU are out of step with Scotland's National soccer team which already sports the ALBA strip with pride.

"George Jack President Scottish Rugby Union Scottish Rugby Murrayfield Edinburgh EH12 5PJ

Dear George Jack

I am writing to make you aware of the launch of a petition addressed to the Scottish Rugby Union about the inclusion of the word 'Alba' on the front of the national Scottish rugby shirt.

The text of ther petition reads:

"To: Scottish Rugby Union

We the undersigned, call upon the Scottish Rugby Union to proudly display 'Alba' (the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland), alongside Scotland, on the front of the national rugby team shirt."

The petition can be found at the following Internet address:

(voir le site)

To date, we have almost 200 signatures on the petition, despite the fact that it was launched only about two weeks ago and has consequently received limited publicity.

BBC Scotland has also shown an interest in the campaign and a news write up in Scottish Gaelic can be found at the link below:

We hope that you agree with the aims of our campaign and would consider adding your own name to the petition.

A Facebook group site has also been launched to make the campaign better known to others. The group is called "Scottish Rugby Union: "Put 'Alba' on Scottish Ruby Shirt" and can be found at the address below:

We firmly believe that the Scottish Rugby Union would be fully supported by the Scottish people if it was decided to include this Gaelic word for Scotland on the shirt, especially now that the Scottish Football Association has included the word on the Scottish national football shirt.

Many thanks in advance.

Yours sincerely

Rhisiart Tal-e-bot General Secretary

CC Gordon McKie, Chief Executive, SRU"
