The failure of governments throughout the Celtic countries to address the scandal of child abuse in State institutions despite repeated scandals over the past two decades was considered at the Celtic League AGM last weekend.

The Director of Information said the most valuable and cherished resource in any society should be its young people. He went on to outline how a series of scandals had emerged in Ireland, Wales, Mann and Scotland over the past two decades and yet at the conclusion of enquiries more questions remained unanswered than had been addressed. He pointed out that recently he had sought to secure Manx government support for a retrospective child care audit following alarming revelationsin another dependency of the United Kingdom. He said the Manx government had not been negative over the issue but they did not indicate a desire to be proactive.

Following discussion the following resolution was adopted:

"This AGM:

Mindful that in the past two decades a significant number of child care scandals have ocurred in various Celtic countries calls upon the National governments within the celtic countries to carry out a retrospective child care audit to ensure that those whose lives were damaged in state institutions achieve redress."
