A year after the Celtic League Mannin Branch criticised the Isle of Man governments drug and alcohol strategy as an `abject failure' our views have been echoed by an outspoken member of the House of Keys.

Member for the constituency of Rushen MHK Quintin Gill in a withering attach on the performance of the Chief Minister's Drug and Alcohol Strategy, described it as 'expensive political window dressing'.

He said there was little justification of the £5.4 million pounds of taxpayers' money which has been spent on it and seriously questioned the value and purpose of the policy, and the rationale behind it.

Last March the Celtic League Mannin branch expressed similar concerns saying that it past time the Islands Chief Minister had the good grace to admit his policies to address this social blight have been unsuccessful and carry out an audit of the policy, its cost and its failure!

We asserted that the main result of over a decade of drug and alcohol policy had been `glossy leaflets, reports and committee meetings' which had failed to reverse the tide of a social degeneration that drug and alcohol abuse caused.
