NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE The Celtic League have received a response from the Irish government about its involvement in the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL). The League first wrote in February seeking clarification of a number of points from the Department of Justice and subsequently contacted the Office of the Taoiseach when no reply was received (see links below): Ministers Ref: 0213174457 13, June, 2013 Dear Mr Moffatt, I am directed by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Mr Alan Shatter T.D., to refer to your correspondence of 9 February 2013. The delay in replying is regretted. The Minister has been informed by the Garda Commissioner that the Interpol General Secretariat produces a Financial Report and statement annually in accordance with the Organisation's financial regulations.Copies of the Annual Report containing a financial statement are circulated by the Interpol General Secretariat each year and are forwarded to senior Garda Management. A summary of the financial report is published at the back of the Annual Report which is available to the public via the Interpol website - www.interpol.int. The Interpol Generai Secretariat Fli iancial Regulations Section 2: Income: Regulation 3:2: provides for the statutory contribution for members. Ireland is represented at the Interpol General Assembly by the Commissioner or a Deputy Commissioner. Minutes taken at the General Assembly are not available to the public. The Secretary General and the elected Executive Committee of Interpol are responsible for the day to day running of the organisation, including the appointment and payment of advisors. An Garda Siochána say they are not aware of a list of advisors retained by Interpol. Interpol is governed by the Executive Committee, General Assembly and National Central Bureaus. I trust this clarifies the situation for you. Yours sincerely, Damien Brennan
