GAELTACHT SIGNS - IRISH ONLY FROM NOW!
The law which ensures the use of the Irish language version of placenames in Gaeltacht districts, which we announced in Celtic News in December of last year (Celtic News - No. 1608), was given effect yesterday.
Place names on signposts in Gaeltacht areas will now be in Irish only. English versions

The law which ensures the use of the Irish language version of placenames in Gaeltacht districts, which we announced in Celtic News in December of last year (Celtic News - No. 1608), was given effect yesterday.
Place names on signposts in Gaeltacht areas will now be in Irish only. English versions of place names have been removed from the signs, as part of the plan to give equal status to the Irish language.
The new regulations were piloted through by Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Minister Eamon O Cuiv. . J B Moffatt Secretary General Celtic League
