NEWS FROM THE MANNIN BRANCH CELTIC LEAGUEEddie Teare was unusually having ?his feet held to the fire? today over the fitness assessments being carried out by United Kingdom contractor ‘Dependability’ for the Manx government. The issue keeps surfacing in Tynwald and the Keys and once again the Treasury Minister was pressed on the amount of money this shameful exercise is saving. However as Eddie always does in the face of pressure and not having his faithful sidekick Bill Henderson MLC to deflect the attacks on him he obfuscated.Eddie keeps on maintaining that this was not about saving but was eventually pinned down to promising an eventual figure sometime hence by Alf Cannan MHK (story and clip here): (voir le site) if Teare?s questioners think they have gained the moral high ground they need to think again. These assessments are still going on and despite what Teare says he and his Keys colleagues know this is about taking money from the most vulnerable. Indeed ?the dogs in the street know it?!No amount of posturing in the Keys can get away from the fact that the House and indeed Tynwald has let down people with disabilities and on incapacity benefit by their failure to halt this process. The policy is wrong. Eddie Teare and COMIN are wrong. But most of all the whole political class is wrong in letting this shameful practice go on with ‘Dependability’ we are advised being paid for each individual they assess like some grotesque piece-work scheme!BERNARD MOFFATTIssued by: The Mannin Branch Celtic League08/03/16THE CELTIC LEAGUEThe Celtic League established in 1961 has branches in the six Celtic Countries including our own Mannin branch.
