NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE Mebyon Kernow (MK) Councillors at Cornwall Council have led the criticism of the Council's 'Case For Cornwall' when the proposal to go out to consultation was made. MK described it as 'lacking ambition' and in danger of creating a mere super council that will actually centralise power rather than bringing decision making closer to the people. MK Deputy Leader Cllr Andrew Long pressed the Leader of the Council, John Pollard, to confirm that he would actually listen to the results of the consultation process. Fellow Councillor, Dr Loveday Jenkin also criticised the proposal and asked why there was no mention of a 'Fair Funding Commission' and urged that it be included, something MK Councillors had been doing ever since the flawed proposals were first muted. Mebyon Kernow need as many people as possible to take part in the consultation process. The Leader of Cornwall Council, Cllr John Pollard (Ind) has said there will be four consultation events which have been published as follows: Penzance: Wednesday 27 May 6.30pm Penzance One Stop Shop, St Clare, Penzance, TR18 3QW Liskeard: Thursday 28 May 6.30pm Luxstowe House Council Chamber, Liskeard, PL14 3DZ Truro: Monday 1 June 6.30pm New County Hall, Treyew Road, Truro, TR1 3AY Bude: Wednesday 3 June 6.30pm Falcon Hotel, Breakwater Road, Bude EX23 8SD These will all start at 6.30pm and the Truro event will be subject of webcast. In addition to these events, there will apparently be a presence at the Royal Cornwall Show at Wadebridge on 4th - 6th June. A spokesperson for Mebyon Kernow has said, 'It is vital that we get a good turnout to show the Council that the Case For Cornwall is merely paying lip service to what is really required which is a directly elected Cornish Assembly. Even more worrying is the proposal on planning which will not give us any real control over planning policy in Cornwall. This is potentially very damaging as it will continue the UK Government's National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) which is just a developers' charter'. Cornwall Council 'Case for Cornwall' webpage.
