NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE The new `cosy' relationship between Irish institutions and the British nuclear industry came under scrutiny at the Celtic league AGM held at Karaez in Brittany. The Leagues Director of Information (who participated in the conference via video-link) said that the much trumpeted agreement between the Irish and British authorities had not resulted in either the RPII or An Garda Siochana pressing their British counterparts on issues of concern. The resolution set out below was subsequently agreed by the meeting Aware that via a`friendly agreement' both Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland and An Garda Síochána are allowed access to the Sellafield site expesses its concern that neither body has pressed the UK about the discovery of almost 400 radioactive particles on beaches (monitored by the UK) in the north west Irish sea or indeed the possible spread of such contaminated material beyond the zone currently monitored.
