Bulat Pestivien Languidic 27.10.06: Communique from Oui au breton

Letter from UGB to the Director of Education.

UGB - Unvaniezh ar Gelennerien Brezhoneg

The President:Jean Michel Branellec

To the Director of Education

Dear Sir,

Bilingual classes project in Bulat Pestivien( Côtes d'Armor)

UGB (Unvaniezh ar Gelennerien Brezhoneg), the Breton teachers association fully supports the parents from Bulat in their request for a new bilingual Breton/French class within the public education sector.

We know that a bilingual class in Bulat would integrate into one of the « programmes » intended for the Côte d'Armor department, as planned by Inspector Rémy Guillou.

In our opinion, a bilingual education school card should not aim to « freeze » a situation, because it would then mean its disapearance or at least its marginalisation.

It would turn it into an experiment that would be limited to some schools that were preliminarily chosen by the Administration.

It must take into account the interest of a growing number of families for bilingual education. We do not understand why National Education not only neglects to inform families, but also goes against their wish even when it is supported by the whole community.

We hope you and your department will understand our concern,

All the best,

Jean Michel Branellec

Despite actual progress during the twenty last years, Breton/French bilingualism has not entered our daily lives, especially in schools. Actual misunderstandings and too many obstacles, especially from public administration, still remain.

That is why the ouiaubreton.com website will from now on regularly launch information or mobilisation campaigns to help its members have their rights respected. See website
