The annual Illiam Dhone Commemoration will take place on Wednesday 2nd January 2008 at Hango Hill on the Isle of Man.
The ceremony recalls the execution at the site of Manx patriot and political martyr, Illiam Dhone (William Christian). Over the years it has been a focus for contemporary Social, Political and Cultural comment on the state of Manx affairs.
Speakers give an oration in Manx and English and this year the two speakers will be Greg Joughin (Manx oration) and Angela Moffatt (English oration).
Both speakers have previously delivered the Illiam Dhone oration.
Greg Joughin is a prominent exponent of Manx music and has been active in defence of the Manx culture and way of life for many years. He has composed Manx music and song and been particularly active in promoting the Manx musical heritage to young people.
Angela Moffatt is a Trade Union official who first spoke, as a student, at the Illiam Dhone commemoration in 1993 when she highlighted what she said was the "example of Illiam Dhone in the progressive struggle for our sense of national being".
The ceremony, including wreath laying, takes place at 2:00pm and is followed by a Church Service at Malew, where Illiam Dhone is buried, and a social gathering in Castletown.
