Nantes/Naoned: 21.12.2006 Press-release from: UDB Spokeperson: Jakez Castrec
UDB and Breizh gwin gwenn appellation
The Breton Democratic Union (L'Union démocratique bretonne) supports the Breton wine appelation; Breizh gwin gwenn.
It is necessary to greet both Loire-Atlantique winegrowers, who took the initiative to call the 'muscadet' they produce 'Breton wine' and to use a bilingual (French-Breton) label on their bottles.
The Fraud Squad's unfavourable opinion on this matter would not have been taken seriously if it had not lodged a complaint against both winegrowers to Nantes public prosecutor for “attempt to deceipt and nonconform labelling.”
For the UDB, a wine that is produced in Brittany is no doubt a Breton wine.
Historically, nobody denies the fact that Loire-Atlantique is Breton, as the Department Assembly has just stressed again.
Therefore, the aforementioned complaint is without any doubt political, since it is justified only by the fact that the vineyard concerned is administratively located in Pays de la Loire.
Muscadet is a Breton wine under appelation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) since 1936. Muscadet is Nantes (type of) wine par excellence.
In 1936, Pétain had not yet outrageously divided Loire-Atlantique from the other Breton departments. Anyway, who can reasonnably support the idea that Breton identity is a matter of wine classification?
Consequently, we would like to greet both winegrowers for their action. The best way to support them is to buy their products... and to drink them without excess.
There may be deception in this case, but both winegrowers have nothing to do with this matter...
