NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE ITV Granada has responded to a query from the Celtic League about the extent and depth of coverage they provide for Isle of Man based news items. The League had written to both the BBC (NW) and ITV, following the 2015 Manx budget, with concerns about the coverage provided for Island residents. In their reply Granada say they do source items via a freelance journalist based in the West of the Island and in the past six months they say that they have covered ?more than fifty stories on Granada reports?. They point out political items covered included: The big debate public meetings Toilet tax Assisted suicide Resignation of policy and reform minister Death threats issued to the Treasury Minister Budget Douglas Promenade Improvements They also refer to ?powerful report?, provided by their Isle of Man based freelance journalist, into a human interest story. Outlining the considerable geographic area they cover they go on to say specifically in relation to the budget: ?Our reporter attended the press conference in February following the Manx budget decision and gathered reaction for us.? They conclude by saying: ?We would always like to do more on the Isle of Man. But as I?m you are aware we have a very strong news patch and we have to make tough editorial decisions everyday.? Whilst the Station has not specifically responded to our request for the amount of news time devoted to Manx coverage nonetheless the Celtic League welcome the response which provides considerable detail. Our original query is contained in the CL News report (link below). At this stage no response has been received from the BBC: (voir le site) J B Moffatt (Mr) Director of Information Celtic League 12/03/15 (Please note that replies to correspondence received by the League and posted on CL News are usually scanned hard copies.
