NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE Success, by Amal Clooney and the legal team representing the ?Hooded Men? will cause ?huge embarrassment? for the United Kingdom according to an article in the (UK) Guardian newspaper this week. The Irish governments case will not simply be that the ?inhumane and degrading treatment? decision arrived at in the original case should be amended so that the UK is also convicted of torture, but they will argue that the original decision was arrived at because the UK not only lied to the ECHR but also that they withheld crucial documents. See link: (voir le site) The article also points out that a successful conclusion to the case will ?set a new legal precedent which would hinder the use of such torture techniques in the future, and after all these decades, such a precedent couldn't be more welcome.? For its part the Celtic League has always believed that the so called ?special treatment? meted out to the prisoners constituted torture. We put our position on the record as long ago as the summer of 1976 in an issue of Carn (Issue 14 page 14) ?Torture and its Consequences? Maybe now after 40 years the United Kingdom will finally suffer the consequences of the torture it meted out and the ?hooded men? will finally get justice See link: (voir le site) J B Moffatt (Mr) Director of Information 15/02/15 (Please note that replies to correspondence received by the League and posted on CL News are usually scanned hard copies.
