News from Celtic League The long awaited Scottish National Party (SNP) vision for an independent, due for its publication next week, is expected to be launched in Glasgow and not at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, it was announced this week. The White Paper will set out the SNP government?s proposals on the economy and the political choices facing a new, independent Scottish state and will be launched on Tuesday 26th November. A debate on the White Paper will take place in the Scottish Parliament among Members of the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 27th November. It is expected that the Paper will be a lengthy document of over 500 pages and will prepare the way for the Scottish referendum on independence, which will be held on Thursday 18 September 2014. Preceding the launch of The White Paper, The Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS) produced the first output of a new project this week, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), that examines the fiscal choices that might face Scotland, should it choose independence following the 2014 referendum. The IFS report does not set out whether Scotland could survive fiscally after independence, but what fiscal choices a Scottish government would have to make. The full report can be found below. Last month First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond renewed his call for Prime Minister David Cameron to take part in a head-to-head televised debate with him on the issue of Scottish independence, following the launch of The White Paper, which Cameron has so far refused to do. The proposed launch of the White Paper in Glasgow has annoyed ?No Campaigners?, who feel that the Scottish Parliament is the proper venue for the launch of the important report.
