There is fury in Wales following the news that a dental clinic in Gaza paid for by Welsh Christians has been destroyed by missiles fired by a Israeli air-force jet. When the Israelis attacked the Shij'ia Family Health Care Centre last Saturday night it has now emerged they also destroyed the mobile dental clinic parked outside. The dental clinic, emblazoned with the Red Dragon, is a familiar sight in Gaza City, where it is the only supplier of dental healthcare for the inhabitants of the Gaza strip. The Shij'ia Family Health Care Centre in Gaza City, run by the Near East Council of Churches (NECC), is one of only two centres outside which the dental clinic is regularly parked. The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, has written to the Israeli Embassy in London asking why the dental clinic was targeted. “It does raise questions about Israel's values and purposes,” he said. “We are perplexed and shocked at this attack and are looking for an explanation for it from the Israeli Ambassador. ” The mobile clinic was funded through a 10 year appeal by the Church in Wales and treated more than 5,000 people in 2007 alone. As well as the mobile the attack completely destroyed the Shij'ia Family Health Care Centre and its contents, including hundreds of thousands of pounds of medical equipment.
