The General Secretary (GS) of the League has written to the Western Morning News newspaper in Cornwall to complain about inaccuracies in an article they carried on 3rd July 2008 concerning the case of Tony Leamon.

The article was later picked up today by the London based newspaper 'The Sun' and, as to be expected, further distorted. The GS said in his letter to the Editor that he was pleased that the newspaper took up the story of Mr Leamon's case, but was disappointed by the poor reporting and research undertaken. The full text of his letter can be found below.

"Dear Editor

'Protester Rallies to Support Nationalist'

I am writing to you regarding the above article which appeared in the Western Morning News on 3rd July 2008.

I am pleased you decided to take up the story of Tony Leamon, but I was equally disappointed that you got several important facts wrong about the case and misconstrued what else there was.

If you had done your research properly, you would have easily discovered that Mr Leamon is 41 and not 58 years old. Neither did Mr Leamon turn up at Camborne police station on 2nd July 2008, because the police visited him at his home four hours before and told him that his bail would be delayed until 31st July 2008. Mr Leamon immediately contacted his support network to update everyone and within the hour most of the people who were planning to go to the protest had been informed that the protest was cancelled. Unfortunately, Mr Evans was not told about the bail delay and the cancellation of the protest and so turned up anyway.

We hope that on the 31st July, if Mr Leamon's fifth planned bail appearance is not delayed again for the third time, one of your more senior reporters will be able to interview him and others about his plight.

Yours sincerely

Rhisiart Tal-e-bot General Secretary Celtic League"
