Ajaccio 11/10/06 07:32 by ABP The members of the Corsican Assembly adopted the Moor’s head unanimously and without any debate during the public session at the Assembly on Thursday 28th September. From 2007 the Moor’s head will be used as the symbol on all new licence plates. Whether it will be actually used or not will remain to be seen however, because it will be the choice of the car owner concerned.

The licence plate system reform, announced in 2003, expects every car to keep the same licence plate for the whole of its life, as from 1st January 2008.

Wherever the car owner lives, s/he will be able to personalise the licence plate of their car by using the regional symbol as well as the department number; two optional pieces of information that will be situated on the right hand side boarder of the plate.

This reform will allow French regions to make themselves more widely recognised/visible, convey their colours across territorial boarders.

The president of the Corse Executive Council, Ange Santini, considers that this regional logo is a new kind of “freedom”, which will allow every car owner to show his/her attachment to both a region and a department.
