NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE The campaign for reunification continues across Brittany and a number of initiatives are ongoing. Celtic League Breton member, Dominig Kervegant, outlines two examples below: REUNIFICATION of BRITTANY : Democracy v Republic, again! Dibab, ?the Choice?, have managed to organise 11 public votes (unofficial referendums) in towns and villages. The first vote took place in December in Saint-Viaud, located in Loire-Atlantique, the département where Nantes is situated. Dibab follows the example of Catalonia and its aim is to prove to the French state, once again, that more than 70% of the population of Brittany are in favour of the Reunification and the return of Nantes/Naoned to the region. Nevertheless there was quite some interference last time in Petit-Auverné (Nantes area) on 14 June since Véronique Schaff, the sub-prefect (sous-préfète), namely the representative of the state, asked the mayor not to allow the use of official municipal premises. Dibab had to resort to plan B and luckily some one offered them a place to organise the vote. In the old days, before the election of Mitterrand in 1981 and the (mild) devolution which followed, Prefects and their deputies had huge decision making powers in the municipalities. Are they making a come-back? Democracy v Republic? èDibab offers a package that people can use to organise their own local elections. (voir le site) REUNIFICATION of BRITTANY : A very smart move ?Breizh 5/5? is a slogan that can be seen at the entrance to towns and villages. Breizh 5/5 which started in Bro-Dreger/Trégor in north Brittany has had the bright idea of creating an ?official? sign for municipalities in favour of the REUNIFICATION of BRITTANY. Although many Breton municipalities have expressed their desire for reunification nevertheless, until now, their wish had no visibility whatsoever. 5 events took place in the 5 first municipalities to install the creative fun signs, one in each Breton département : Guipavas (Finistère), Langouet (Ille-et-Vilaine), Blain (Loire-Atlantique), La Chapelle-Caro (Morbihan), and Trévou-Tréguignec (C?ôtes-d?Armor) at the end of June. There will be more to come?
