The first impressions on arriving in Lorient was this great mass of white marquees all around the quay, marina and Jules Ferry Gardens, along with the various food and drink stalls. Our marquee was situated in a prime position at the entrance to Quai des Indes, across the road from the headquarters of the festival, Palais des Congres, so the majority of the 650,000 attending the Interceltique Festival passed our way at some time or other. We had a continuous stream of customers and there were only a very few occasions when no one was inside our marquee.

Our Interceltique stamps (*) were very popular especially the souvenir sheet containing the eight stamps and postcards which were released on the first day of the Festival. In particular the postcards captured the imagination of the visitors. The postcards, featuring each of the stamps, were postmarked with the Interceltique Festival cachet and handstamp and were taken back to the Isle of Man for onward posting throughout the world.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't ideal with heavy rain and high winds on most days, particularly on the day of the Grande Parade, but the sun did appear from time to time.

The highlight on the next to the last night of the festival was King Chiaullee, musicians from the Isle of Man, winning the Trophée de Musique Celtique Cidrerie des Terroirs. The trophy was displayed on our stand on the last day of the festival and created a lot of interest.

There was a great atmosphere around the whole of Lorient with music groups singing in all the bars and cafes until the early hours of the morning, and tables and benches in the streets.

Every one we spoke to were delighted with the Isle of Man presence at the Interceltique Festival and we were impressed by the organisation of such a large undertaking particularly with so many volunteers involved in the organisation. The Isle of Man looks forward to return to future festivals.
