Here?s a ?good news story? about the British Military in the Celtic countries touting their green credentials (link): (voir le site) anything that tidies up the current sprawl of buildings associated with the current missile tracking facility on St Kilda is to be welcomed. However the MOD and military credentials as custodians of the environment is offset somewhat by the munitions debris and damage they cause elsewhere in Scotland not least at Cape Wrath where live firing exercises some years ago caused damage to ancient heath land that (on the MODs own admission to us) would take over a decade to recover. The sea area of Cape Wrath is littered with lethal debris and small off shore Islands blasted by bombing and naval gunfire. Recently the destruction of unexploded ordnance caused the death of a large school of CetaceansSome may aver that this is part of the price to be paid for defence well not for some! One of the main users of Cape Wrath is US air and naval forces who exercise there several times a year. Paradoxically weapons ranges the US forces used to use on Puerto Rico were closed after environmental protests over the damage caused. Some may be taken in by the St Kilda ?green credentials? hypocrisy but we are not!Image: Island offshore at Cape Wrath is blasted by USAF ? MOD credentials not so green here.BERNARD MOFFATTPublic Relations Officer Mannin BranchIssued by: The Mannin branch of the Celtic League.29/10/16
