NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE The Isle of Man is to increase its minimum wage rates for workers from October this year. Given the comparative strength of the Manx economy the figure (when it does come in) is low. France (Brittany) for example has a current figure equating to just over £8 and this will adjust again by inflation 3 months after the new IOM figure comes into force. The figure in Ireland is also appreciably higher equating to £7.36 currently despite the relative weakness of the Irish economy. The rates are set out below with a comparison to those in all other Celtic countries ISLE OF MAN Isle of Man minimum wage (18+) £6:40 (17 and over) £5:24 (Under 17) £4:67 SCOTLAND, N. IRELAND, WALES & CORNWALL UK minimum wage: (21+) £6:19 (18-20) £4:98 (Under 18) £3:72 IRELAND Ireland minimum wage: (18+) Euro 8:65 (various percentage minimums apply below 18 years of age).
