The Celtic League Director of Information has written to the Isle of Man Department of Local Government (DOLGE) Minister, John Shimmin MHK, asking if the Department has been consulted on by the United Kingdom Health and Safety Executive over Nuclear Sites Delicensing Criteria, specifically 'Guidance to Inspectors'.

The League have also suggested that if possible the League and the Manx government should try to achieve a consensus in any response to British governments initiatives on these critical issues.

Correspondence to DOLGE below:

"Dear Minister,

Ref: Criterion for Delicensing Nuclear Sites: Guidance to Inspectors

The United Kingdom Health and Safety Executive recently invited views from the Celtic League in relation to the above. The background to this is that following the publication of the HSE CRITERION FOR DELICENSING NUCLEAR SITES (www.hse.gov.uk/nuclear/delicensing.pdf) the HSE is producing guidance to its inspectors on the interpretation of the criterion and whilst not formally consulting on the internal guidance it is seeking comments from 'stakeholders' on this guidance which it will take into account in developing the final version.

In am writing to ask if the Isle of Man government has formally been invited to submit a view(s) and if so would the Department be willing to share its views on this issue with us.

The issues surrounding the run-down and delicensing of nuclear sites are in our view equally as critical as our current concerns about pollution from the operable sites and it would be beneficial if the Celtic League could share a consensus with the Isle of Man government in any response we make"
