Koun Breizh supports those from Coat-Glaz who are demanding that the municipality of Locmaria Plouzane restore their place name in the addressing and asks this municipality to regularize this situation as soon as possible. It concerns our intangible heritage, which is also that of humanity. With recent laws, we have lost a part of our toponymy. It must be reinstated.
Confronted with this terrifying administrative machine that seeks to erase our historical toponymy in the Breton language in favor of new names, the people of Coat-Glaz resist and demand that the municipality of Locmaria-Plouzané restore the name of their locality.
Koun Breizh supports them in this struggle and urgently calls on the municipality of Locmaria-Plouzané to put an end to this heresy of wiping the slate clean of our past, our history, and our traditional inscription within our Breton territory.
A locality is more than just an address; it is a way of being in the world, sometimes even a personal identifier within our countryside. Our toponymy connects us to the past, to our history, and to our ancestors. It reminds us that we are merely passing through here and that it is our responsibility to leave it to those who will come after us.
The 3DS law, which aims for general and uniform application, has no other purpose than to further homogenize our society in the well-understood interest of political power and the globalization of exchanges. This law is not suitable for Brittany and must be set aside.
Those who justify this reform by the rapid arrival of emergency services are the same ones who are closing hospitals in Brittany.
The postal service is at work, as is Megalis, in the name of bringing fiber optics. A simple glance at comparable countries, such as Ireland or the Basque Country, which have ancestral localities in the vernacular language, demonstrates the foolishness of such practices. A GPS point is sufficient to locate a home.
In recent years, we have lost a significant percentage of our toponymy. We must demand its complete restoration.
We call on the Brittany region to invest heavily in this issue by favorably responding to our request for the inscription of toponymy in the Breton language as part of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage. After a meeting at the end of 2024 with the Brittany region, we have not received any further communication.
UNESCO, which we approached, had recognized that our toponymy falls under the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The opening of an inscription procedure would further raise awareness about the respect owed to our toponymic heritage.
