The Devon and Cornwall Police have welcomed an expression of support from the Celtic League in opposing racism in Cornwall. The Statement comes in a letter from the Force's 'Diversity

The Devon and Cornwall Police have welcomed an expression of support from the Celtic League in opposing racism in Cornwall. The Statement comes in a letter from the Force's 'Diversity Unit' to League General secretary. Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, who last month condemned racist attacks on a former Methodist Chapel which is being converted into an Asian community centre.

The Force also say they are happy to work with the League in any initiative to combat racism (see below):

Dear Mr Tal-e-bot

Thank you for your recent communication regarding incidents at Quenchwell Chapel and European Year for Intercultural Dialogue.

It is always helpful to hear of support against racism and other forms of 'hate' crime.

With regard to intercultural dialogue the Constabulary looks to support a number of events through the year and these are considered within our planning cycle. These events include respect festivals, pride events and history months. We work in conjunction with our partners in public services and community groups.

As this plan has been decided upon for this year we would not be able to look at setting up new events. However if you have events already planned, perhaps you could provide the details and we could look at the feasibility of lending support.

With regard to issues relating to Cornwall wide activity, I am sure you will be aware of the Diversity Network for Cornwall (DNfC). This is a partner group looking to address the very issues you have raised. It may be helpful for you to contact them directly. Details of the group can be found via Cornwall County Council's website.
