The Kernow Branch has released the announcement below: ?English Heritage Director, Alex Page, is to meet with representatives of the Cornwall Branch Celtic League to discuss ?the way ahead?. The quango ?English Heritage? currently administers many of Kernow?s ancient and historic sites ranging from round house courtyard villages, standing stones and the like to various castles, the latter on behalf of the Duke of Cornwall. The Cornwall Branch Celtic League is not alone in believing that our heritage should be administered by an organisation based in the Duchy and not in England as is the current case. Many other organisations and politicians believe the same. English Heritage has a history of mismanagement of Cornish sites which is proven and documented. Cornwall has some extremely well qualified archaeologists, historians and heritage savvy individuals and is in a position to assume such control. Following on from many communications between the Cornwall Branch of the Celtic League and English Heritage, Westminster Government Ministers and others regarding Kernow?s heritage which is both non-English and indeed pre-English, Alex Page, English Heritage?s Historic Properties Director ? West, has now contacted the Celtic League in Cornwall to confirm that he is now in liaison with MAGA, the Cornish Language Partnership regarding how best to present the Cornish history and language in our marketing, on signage and interpretation and through our events and education sessions and that since the announcement of the Cornish National Minority Status English Heritage have been considering their brand and marketing in Cornwall. The Celtic League played an important and widely acknowledged role in the campaign leading to the Westminster Government?s announcement to include the Cornish in the European Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCPNM). Very significantly, Alex Page has requested to meet up with representatives of the Cornwall Branch Celtic League to discuss issues relating to Kernow. The Branch has a number of well qualified historians, historical researchers and archaeologists as full members.? The branch is planning a meeting with Mr Page at some point in the near future.
