KERNOW BRANCH - DEVELOPING THE CELTIC AGENDA IN CORNWALL

A new secretary of the Kernow Branch of the League has been elected following a well attended meeting this week in Truro. Iwan le Moine will take over as Branch Secretary, replacing Mike Chappell who took up the position in 2005. A report from the Branch can be found below:

"At a recent Branch meeting held in Truro, Iwan le Moine, a local businessman with a Breton background and who held a position within the Cornish Solidarity Movement was appointed as the new Secretary of the Cornish Branch of the Celtic League.

Much satisfaction was expressed at the growing membership of the local branch and Iwan expressed his pleasure at seeing many new and younger faces at the meeting.

Worldwide support for Tony Leamon had been phenomenal and despite very inaccurate and ill informed gossip on internet sites, the Branch had continued to meet and also to grow establish contacts to spread the news of Cornwall as far afield as New Mexico and Australia in accordance with a general resolution to further contacts.

Tony Leamon, Branch Treasurer, reported an extremely healthy account book that would be the envy of many.

Much discussion followed and these centred on up and coming campaigns in support of others calling for an increasingly Celtic Cornwall.

Messages of solidarity were read out from the other branches.

The Cornish branch had extensively campaigned on last year's resolutions concerning a tick box for the Cornish on the census form and the retention of all matters relating to Cornwall with the geographical boundaries of the Duchy.

Submissions for Carn Magazine were at an all time high and matters look bright for the branch.

The Branch had sent a substantial number in support of its Welsh brethren at St David's Day in Cardiff and the usual Cornish address of solidarity from the steps to the gathered crowds and this year would be sending a delegation to Dublin in order to attend the Annual General Meeting."
