Celtic League

I am writing to you on behalf of the Celtic League to congratulate you on your recent appointment as permanent Gaelic Language Officer at the Office of Gaelic Affairs in Nova Scotia.

For many years, the Celtic League had a Cape Breton Branch and we were always interested to hear of new developments in the promotion of the Gaelic language and culture in your part of the world. As you may already be aware, the Celtic League has branches in the six Celtic countries of north Western Europe and also has branches in England and the USA. We campaign on a range of different issues, but one prime concern for us is the promotion and protection of all the Celtic languages.

We were particularly pleased to learn of your firm commitment to reinvigorate the Gaelic language and culture in the province and that your office has already embarked on an active programme to raise awareness of the language through a leaflet and poster campaign and supporting the Gaelic Council's efforts to teach the language through immersion programs in 11 communities.

We hope that the League can establish future links with you and your office and if we can be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Meanwhile, we would be grateful for any news updates related to Gaelic language and culture in Nova Scotia and will aim to promote your work through our network and web pages.
