The Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) announced to Dastum a reduction of 30,000 euros in its financial contribution for 2026. According to the association specialized in the preservation of Breton oral heritage, this decrease in public funding will result in the elimination of one position among its 18 employees.
The announced decrease in public funding for Dastum could have direct consequences on employment within the association specialized in the collection and preservation of Breton oral heritage.
According to information obtained by ABP from Dastum's treasurer, Claude Devriès, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) plans to reduce its financial contribution by 30,000 euros in 2026. Until now, the annual contribution from the DRAC was approximately 140,000 euros and that of the Brittany Region was 267,000 euros, for a total annual amount of 407,000 euros, a figure that has remained largely stable over the years despite inflation. The announced reduction represents a decrease of just over 21% in the state's contribution.
Founded in 1972, Dastum plays a central role in the preservation and transmission of Breton oral heritage: songs, tales, traditional music, testimonies, and sound archives collected over several decades throughout Brittany.
Claude Devriès specifies that this decrease will force the association to eliminate one position among its 18 employees. Dastum has launched a call for donations to support its activities in preserving and transmitting Breton oral heritage.
This announcement comes in a broader context of budgetary tensions affecting several cultural actors in Brittany, including the Cultural Institute of Brittany.
