The Bugaled Breizh: A full independent enquiry
Two journalists have published a book with the results of their own independent enquiry about the wreck of the Bugaled Breizh “Child of Brittany”, three years after it sank. After two years of investigating, Sébastien Turay and Laurent Richard have discovered new elements that clearly shake up the theory that the Enquiry on Sea Accident Office (Bureau Enquête Accident − BEA) gave on 22nd November 2006. The new facts published by both journalists substantiate the theory that a sub-marine was responsible for the wreck of the Bugaled Breizh.

According to this theory, the trawler was buried in sand. The new facts published by both journalists substantiate the theory that a sub-marine was responsible for the wreck of the Bugaled Breizh. They discovered previously unpublished evidence to support their findings.

On 15th January 2004, a Breton trawler, the Bugaled Breizh, sank with its 5 fishermen off the English coasts. French people were upset by the tragedy wondering what had caused the wreck − was it a fishing accident, attack, collision?

A ship from the Philippines was accused of sinking the trawler, but was later cleared. Other less obvious and more disturbing leads then had to be investigated. Indeed, the Bugaled Breizh was not alone in the area that same day.

An OTAN submarine exercise was planned the day after the wreck. Many warships were also located in the area. Also, another English naval exercise was taking place at the same moment the trawler sank.

What is the link between this mysterious tragedy and the military activity that was taking place nearby? The Bugaled Breizh and the official secrets that surround it, led to the journalists investigating further − starting in 2004 and finishing in 2006.

Both journalists strived to reconstruct the exact story that ended with the shipwreck. They did so by basing their investigations on the testimonies given by those individuals who were involved in the tragedy.

Every page of their book shows numerous precise pieces of evidence that attempt to reveal the truth. Who has an interest in hiding the actual cause of the Bugaled Breizh's wreck? Why are the English and French navies refusing to communicate openly on the accident? Why did one British submarine, expected to attend the aforementioned naval exercises, have to come back and repair serious damage, the cause of which remains unknown?

Laurent Richard, one of the authors of the book, is a journalist−reporter who investigates on behalf of the magazine «Pièces à conviction» ( «Exhibits» ) broadcast on France 3. Sébastien Turay is a journalist, TV producer and the author of several documentaries for France 2, France 3 and M6 (especially on the NASA and the HQ of French spying satellites).
