Català Group becomes Catalan Democratic Convergence (CDC)
[ABP] Having reached a turning point in its development, Català Group will present its activists on 3rd December 2006 (at the occasion of an exceptional conference) its project to turn the group into Catalan Democratic Convergence (CDC).
Català Group has been growing for four years and has won many victories on behalf of North Catalonia. It now aims to become a truely political alternative within the institutional context.
This transformation would lead to a gain of activists and a structural development. The ambition of the group is now to serve the interests of North Catalonia.
CDC is the main component of the CiU federation, which was led for a long time by Jordi Pujol. The actual President is now Arturo Mas. The CiU is the main opposition party within the 'Generalitat' (Catalan Government)
The 'Generalitat' is composed of an alliance between the socialist party (PSE), the left-independentist party (ERC) and the extreme-left.
