More mysterious US military aircraft have transited a Scottish Airport.

The Celtic League understand that earlier this week three unmarked US Special Forces aircraft passed through Prestwick airport.

The U-28 aircraft is a derivative of the Pilatus (Swiss) PC-12 utility transport. The single-engined light transport aircraft has a crew of two and can carry 7 passengers.

The United States Air Force U-28A provides intra-theatre support and is used by the 319th Special Operations Squadron stationed at Hurlburt Air Field in Florida, the headquarters of the USAF Special Operations Command.

The three aircraft serial numbers:

50424 50482 50447

appear to have called in to refuel at Prestwick before flying on to the US air base at Keflavik (Iceland).

Prestwick has been the centre of controversy in the past, having accommodated extraordinary rendition flights and also cargo aircraft carrying munitions to Israel during the Israeli invasion of Lerbanon some years ago.

What these special operations aircraft were up to is open to conjecture. However, the event once again focuses attention on the limited control the Scottish government has over the use by foreign military powers of its air space and airfield facilities.
