NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE Operating in the six Celtic countries and as an accredited Non Government Organisation (NGO) via its participation in the NGO Branch of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (ECOSOC) the Celtic League is keen to involve itself in dialogue on the challenges facing all the Celtic countries. We also speak out for disadvantaged peoples from other communities globally whether it is calling for justice for the displaced Chagos Islanders, Campaigning for greater support for endangered migrants and speaking out for the right of disabled workers (see example links): (voir le site) (voir le site) (voir le site) Before we were accepted for NGO status we already had a track record speaking out against poverty and social injustice in the various Celtic countries (example links): (voir le site) (voir le site) Over the past four weeks the League has ramped up its social interventions speaking out forcefully against a budget strategy for the wealthy on the Isle of Man (link): (voir le site) We also highlighted Manx government plans to attack pensions and benefits (link): (voir le site) In relation to Ireland we also spoke out against the arrest of young people in that State who had been involved in anti-austerity protests (links). (voir le site) (voir le site) This week our Cornish branch has launched its own initiative contrasting the subsistence incomes of many in that country with the ?Celebrity Chef?, ?Prime Minister?s holiday venue?, image that the press like to focus on whilst ignoring the day to day struggle of many Cornish working people (link): (voir le site) In Scotland, Ireland, Mann, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany 2015 and beyond needs to see a greater focus by the Celtic League in line with our NGO ECOSOC profile on issue such as: ?Income inequality, Homelessness, Children, Education, Human Rights, Humanitarian Affairs, Economics and Finance, Governance, Environment, Agriculture, Atomic Energy, Indigenous Peoples, Culture, Drug Control, Development, International Law, Human Rights of Women, Ethics, Transparency and Accountability, Gender Equality, Minority Right, Violence, Climate Change..the list goes on?. (Note a full list of our ?fields of activity? can be found on our profile page at the UN NGO branch web site) We are only a small (self funded) organisation but with our commitment, dedicated supporters in our six branches and hard work together with all the other ECOSOC NGOs globally we can achieve positive change and increased social justice.
