There was strong criticism of the Gaeltacht Bill 2012 at the Celtic League AGM in Karaez, Brittany at the weekend (26-28 Oct). Irish branch Chairman Cathal O Luain outlined serious flaws including the hasty process in adopting the Bill, before a condemnatory resolution was adopted by the meeting. The text of the resolution is set out below and it was passed without dissent by delegates from all six Celtic countries present at the AGM. This AGM condemns the Irish Government for its indecent haste in pushing through the flawed Gaeltacht Bill 2012 earlier this year and ignoring the many amendments sought by Gaeltacht community groups and Irish language voluntary organisations. We call on the Irish Government to take cognisance of these and to provide proper language planning support for the real Irish speaking areas within the present Gaeltacht boundaries. J B Moffatt (Mr)
